The festive season is upon us. We'd love you to have Shetlandeli products on your Christmas table or as presents for friends and family. If you'd like to have a delivery to your door before Christmas please order with us by midnight on Wednesday 16 December.  Shetland weather can be very disruptive to transport at this time of year so this allows us time to get your order to you...

What's in a Name? December 02 2015

Every Shetlandeli product has a Shetland name.  Our new relish, Kishie, is named after the baskets traditionally used in Shetland for carrying everything from peat to fish and even, on occasion, small children!  Katie Deyell (pictured) used the kishie as part of her everyday life. Born Catherine Leask in 1864, Katie married Duncan Deyell in 1884 and lived at Staneydale, Westerskeld and Semblester throughout her life. She worked hard, running the...

Kishie Available Now December 01 2015

Kishie - fresh crisp carrots alive with spice - is a tasty addition to your Christmas table this festive season. Made by hand in small batches in our Shetland kitchen, we infuse crispy carrot and turnip with ginger, orange and cardamom to make this lovely sticky relish. Perfect with Christmas hams and the milder cheeses on your cheese board, it's equally delicious with mackerel or tuna, or poppadums and your...

Too many Greens? October 11 2015

Green tomato chutney-making is top of the list this week at Shetlandeli towers. If you have tomatoes that refuse to ripen, and you fancy a change from chutney.... why not try green tomato cake!  It may seem like an odd concept, but it's very tasty.     In our taste test, the cake was mistaken for gooseberry cake many times over. The tomatoes turn soft and their sharpness complements the sweet...

Come and Taste our New Recipe October 11 2015

Our pans have been pibblin' and rampin' (simmering and boiling) full of our delicious new relish. It's unlike anything we have cooked before and complements our range beautifully. We've already had fantastic feedback from our taste test panel, so come and taste it for yourself at the Shetland Food Fair from 30 October to 1 November. We would love your feedback! Each year attend Shetland's Food Fair to celebrate Shetland's...

Shetlandeli wins at the Great Taste Awards August 06 2015

We are delighted to say that we are celebrating a high-profile accolade in the world’s most coveted blind-tasted food awards, the Great Taste Awards - described as the ‘Oscars’ of the food world. We won the award for our Valhalla Ale Chutney, which the judges described as "well made, with love."  Made with Sjolmet Stout from Shetland’s Valhalla Brewery, Valhalla chutney is rich with spices, apples, root vegetables, dates and dark sugar....

Tammie Norrie's back June 01 2015

The wonderful Tammie Norries (puffins) have flocked again to Shetland's cliffs to mate.  What a sight they are - we love these characters.  Our favourite places to see them are Noss and Sumburgh Head, but on rainy days we can be found watching Promote Shetland's puffin cam, a great way to check up on progress on the slopes and in the burrows!  They lay just one egg per pair and...

Hello World! June 01 2015

It's been an exciting time in the fields around us lately as our neighbourhood ewes give birth to this year's lambs. We're surrounded by Shetland sheep, one of the hardiest breeds in the world, reared for their fine wool and tasty meat.   This year's lambing has been disrupted by cold weather and high winds - far from plain sailing.  We've been delighted to help out where needed with bottle...

Shetland, Skipton, Orkney, London June 01 2015

Shetlandeli is well and truly on the road now after a rush of new stockists have come on board.  If you live in Yorkshire or are visiting historic Skipton, do check out our range at the wonderful Relish Deli in Rope Walk.  Londoners can pick up our products for the first time in Chiswick, at the fantastic Hammonds.  Both shops are keen on all things Shetland so you may well find...

Tell us and Win! June 01 2015

People continually tell us how much they love our products (which is great).  But how do you make the most of your Shetlandeli chutney?  Valhalla in a vindaloo? Taing on toast?  Tell us how you make the most of Muckle Flugga and what you spice up with Spiggie.  We'd love to hear from you.  Simply post us a message on our Facebook page, or on Twitter  or send us an email to hello@shetlandeli.com.   If...

Our new gift pack is launched June 01 2015

You may have noticed that a new gift pack has started to appear on shelves in Shetland and beyond. Our 'Sweet and Shilpet' gift pack pairs one sweet chutney and one shilpet (sharp) chutney in a lovely presentation pack. 'Shilpet' is a great Shetland word which beautifully describes the sharp, tangy flavour of both our Spiggie and Muckle Flugga recipes. Pairing them with their sweet counterparts, Valhalla or Taing, makes...
