Hello World! June 01 2015

It's been an exciting time in the fields around us lately as our neighbourhood ewes give birth to this year's lambs. We're surrounded by Shetland sheep, one of the hardiest breeds in the world, reared for their fine wool and tasty meat.

This year's lambing has been disrupted by cold weather and high winds - far from plain sailing.  We've been delighted to help out where needed with bottle feeding and keeping an eye on the most delicate young.  And, as some of you know, we've been feeding our vegetable scraps - the by-product of making chutney - to the ewes all year round.  We'd like to think that also helped in the grand scheme of things.  The local flock have had quite a smörgåsbord throughout the year - from carrot and neep peelings to cucumber, pepper and courgette tops.  Full of vitamins and goodness, no doubt.  Here's one little fella whose mum was a worthy recipient of our vegetable off-cuts.....
